About

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Danielle Burns immigrated to New Zealand in 2013.  She had always created some form of art in her life: painting, drawing and crafts.  However, coming to New Zealand inspired her to start carving.  She picked up a block of Kauri wood from the Kauri Museum in Matakohe and with a swiss army knife, whittled her first wood carving.  It proved to be the most satisfying and relaxing form of art she had ever experienced.  Carving sparked an undeniable passion.

Today Danielle attends The Learning Connextion School of Creativity and Art with a focus on sculpture.  She spent her time in the diploma programme carving oamaru stone and experimenting with other mediums such as ice and sand.  Now in the Honours programme, she has returned to wood carving and is looking forward to exhibiting a series combining stone and wood.
